Hand-Forged and Ready for Action
If a medieval archer were to swear by one thing at his belt, it would be this reliable axe. The axe head is hand-forged from tough carbon steel, and its shape corresponds to typical 14th-century war axes. It is firmly and reliably mounted on the handle and secured with a rivet. Thanks to its balance and optimal weight, the axe is easy to handle with one hand, whether in combination with a shield or as a standalone weapon.
You can choose from two handle options:
- Light Ash Wood: Lightweight, flexible, and traditionally used for handles due to its ability to absorb shock.
- Dark Hardwood: Stained hardwood (e.g., teak, acacia) offering a robust feel and a darker, rustic look.

Historical Context: The Archer's Friend
Although the bow is an archer's primary weapon, history shows that they were vulnerable without a quality close-combat weapon. The axe was an ideal choice—it was cheaper than a sword, immensely versatile, and deadly even in the hands of a less-trained combatant. In addition to defence, it served practical purposes: archers used it to hammer sharpened stakes into the ground to protect themselves from cavalry charges (a famous tactic from the Battle of Agincourt), to repair equipment, and for everyday chores in camp.
Principles of Safe Use

- Before each use, check that the axe head is securely fitted.
- Always be careful when handling the axe and be aware of the safe space around you.
- Never use the axe against people or animals unless it is for controlled and rehearsed stage combat with the appropriate equipment and supervision.
Axe Care
Keep the metal head dry and regularly treat it with a thin layer of oil to prevent rust. Protect the wooden handle from extreme humidity and dryness. You can occasionally wipe it with linseed oil to maintain its flexibility and appearance.
