Cold Steel Tiger Claw Folding Knife – Karambit / Hawkbill – CPM S35VN Steel
Hybrid Design for Work and Defense
The blade geometry merges the Hawkbill and Karambit styles. This inward-curving shape captures the material being cut, ensuring maximum control and cutting power. The blade is crafted from premium American CPM S35VN powder metallurgy steel. This "super steel" is extremely tough, resistant to chipping, holds an edge exceptionally well, and is relatively easy to sharpen considering its hardness.
The handle is made from G-10, CNC-machined into a slim profile that disappears in your pocket. An iconic feature is the aluminum ring at the pommel. This allows for lightning-fast deployment, provides an unbeatable grip retention (making it nearly impossible to disarm), and facilitates Silat or Kali techniques. Safety is guaranteed by the patented Tri-Ad Lock™, widely regarded as one of the strongest locking mechanisms in the world.
History and Functionality
The Karambit has its roots in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Philippines), where it originated as an agricultural tool inspired by a tiger's claw before evolving into a feared weapon. The Hawkbill shape is the domain of tradesmen—from sailors cutting rigging to electricians stripping wire. Andrew Demko combined these two worlds. A notable feature is the thumb plate on the blade spine. Not only does it allow for ambidextrous thumb opening, but it also functions as a "wave" feature—snagging on your pocket seam to deploy the blade automatically as you draw it.

Care and Maintenance
While S35VN is highly corrosion-resistant and G-10 is virtually indestructible, proper care is essential. Occasionally blow out the locking mechanism with compressed air and apply a drop of oil. When sharpening the recurve blade, use ceramic rods or sharpening systems designed for curved edges; flat stones may damage the blade profile.
