• Armament: In his right hand, he leans on a massive battle axe (Dane axe style), with the blade pointing towards the ground. In his left hand, he holds a heater shield with a white cross on a red field.
• Armour: The figure is completely clad in chainmail (hauberk, coif, chausses). On his head, he wears a Great Helm with gold fittings and breathing holes.
• Attire: Over the armour, he wears a deep red surcoat with a white cross on the chest, belted with a brown strap holding a dagger.

Historical Insight: Who Wore Red?

This knight historically represents a member of the Order of Hospitallers (Knights of St. John). Although they originally wore black mantles, in 1248 the Pope authorized them to wear a red surcoat with a white cross in battle to distinguish themselves from others and demonstrate their willingness to shed blood for the faith. The use of an axe was not as common among knights as the sword, but in the hands of a strong individual, the axe was a devastating weapon capable of cleaving through helm and shield alike.
