Red Crusader Figurine – Hospitaller Sentinel with Spear 20 cm
Detailed Look at the Defender of the Faith
The figurine is made of high-quality polyresin and hand-painted. The knight is clad in chainmail covering the entire body, including the head.
- Helmet: He wears an iconic Great Helm (bucket helm) with gold cross reinforcement, typical of the 13th century.
- Armament: In his left hand, he holds a long spear on which he leans. On his back, he wears a red cloak that flows down to his heels.
- Heraldry: His chest and shield are adorned with a white cross on a red field.
Historical Insight: Why Red?
Although we often imagine crusaders in white, this knight represents the Order of Hospitallers (Knights of St. John). Originally wearing black mantles, in 1248 Pope Innocent IV allowed them to wear a red surcoat with a white cross in battle to distinguish themselves from other orders on the field. This statue thus faithfully depicts a member of the order in full battle gear from the period of the late Crusades.
Caring for the Statue
While the statue is sturdy (weighing 0.35 kg), it requires care:
- Fragility: Polyresin is strong but brittle if dropped. The most fragile part is the long spear, which could break upon impact. Place the figurine in a stable spot.
- Cleaning: Remove dust with a fine dry brush. Do not use water or chemical cleaners, which could damage the hand-painting.
