Compact Full-Tang Steel Karambit Knife with Ring and Durable Sheath
The History and Origins of the Karambit
While the karambit is primarily perceived as a tactical knife today, its roots reach deep into the history of Southeast Asia, specifically Indonesia and the Philippines. Originally, it was a simple agricultural implement. Its curved blade, inspired by the shape of a tiger's claw, was absolutely ideal for cutting through dense vegetation, gathering roots, or planting rice. Only over the centuries did this tool become integrated into traditional martial arts, such as Indonesian Pencak Silat, where the full potential of the retention ring—which prevents the weapon from being easily disarmed—was fully utilised.
Construction and Safety Guidelines
This model is crafted from a single piece of high-quality 440 stainless steel (a full-tang construction), which gives it extraordinary strength despite its diminutive dimensions and skeletonised handle. The dark finish effectively minimises glare. The blade comes razor-sharp from the factory. For safety reasons, we must strongly emphasise that this is a practical cutting tool and a collector's item. Under no circumstances is it intended for contact historical fencing, LARP battles, or martial arts sparring against a live opponent. The delicate and highly acute tip must also never be used for prying, as this could cause it to snap off.
Care and Maintenance of the Knife and Sheath
The 440 stainless steel is very easy to maintain and resists corrosion well. Even so, we recommend wiping the knife completely dry after use in wet environments. Due to the specific inward curve of the blade (hawkbill profile), it is not possible to use standard flat sharpening stones. To hone this knife, we highly recommend purchasing a ceramic sharpening rod, which allows you to easily follow the internal curve of the edge. For the overall conservation of the metal, we advise using a high-quality gun oil. If the plastic sheath gets dirty, simply rinse it out with water and let it dry.
