Compact Carbon Steel Outdoor EDC Knife with Padauk Wood
The History of Differential Hardening and Practical Application
This small but immensely handy tool is designed for a wide range of outdoor activities. It is absolutely ideal as an EDC (Everyday Carry) knife for common daily tasks, preparing food at camp, or fine wood carving. The blade is treated using the method of differential hardening, a renowned historical technique famous primarily from the production of traditional Japanese swords. While the cutting edge itself achieves a high hardness of 60 HRC for long-lasting superior sharpness, the spine of the blade is intentionally tempered to a softer 44 HRC. Thanks to this ancient process, the blade is extremely tough and highly resistant to breaking under lateral stress. Additionally, a sturdy leather lanyard is threaded through the end of the handle, serving as a safety feature during demanding handling in the wilderness.
Care for Carbon Steel and Natural Materials
The blade is forged from high-quality DNH7 carbon steel. Please note that this is not stainless steel and therefore requires specific care. To ensure the tool serves you for many years and does not catch rust, the blade must be carefully cleaned, wiped completely dry, and lightly coated with a high-quality gun oil or camellia oil after every use. The handle cleverly combines exotic padauk wood and a guard made of natural horn. Since these are delicate natural materials, we strongly warn that the product would be irreversibly ruined if you were to wash it in a dishwasher or expose it to extreme temperatures. We recommend occasionally treating both the wood and the horn with beeswax or linseed oil to effectively prevent them from drying out and cracking.
Safety Guidelines and Warnings
For safety reasons, please remember that this product features an exceptionally sharp blade. It is under no circumstances intended for contact historical fencing, blade-on-blade cutting tests, combat training, or any man-to-man duels where serious or even fatal injuries could occur. Use it exclusively as a practical working and outdoor tool with the utmost caution, and always prioritize your own safety and the safety of those around you.
Recommended Accessories
For easy and regular maintenance of the perfect edge, we highly recommend purchasing a high-quality fine-grit water whetstone and a reliable preservation oil, which will reliably protect the carbon steel blade from corrosion.
