Hand-Forged Nordic Hunting Knife with Rosewood and Celtic Motif
The History of the Puukko and the Secret of Differential Hardening
Conceptually, this tool is based on traditional Scandinavian knives, commonly known as puukko. Throughout the history of the harsh North, these knives were an absolute necessity for daily survival – they were used for hunting, processing game, wood carving, and everyday food preparation. The blade of this specific model stands out due to its manufacturing process. It utilizes the technique of differential hardening. While the cutting edge itself is hardened to an extreme degree (approx. 60 HRC) to ensure perfect and long-lasting edge retention, the spine of the blade remains softer and tougher (approx. 44 HRC). This historical blacksmithing method guarantees that the knife is highly resistant to breaking, even under heavy stress.
Safety Rules and Usage Limitations
This product is equipped with a very sharp blade. For safety reasons, we strongly warn you that this knife is absolutely not intended for contact historical fencing (HEMA), blade-on-blade cutting tests, or any martial arts training with a sparring partner. This is a real, functional cutting tool. Always handle it with the utmost care and use it only for its primary intended purposes (woodworking, crafting, camp food preparation) to prevent the risk of severe and irreversible injuries to yourself or others. When moving around at LARP events, always keep it safely secured within its leather sheath.
Care for Carbon Steel and Natural Materials
To ensure your knife serves you reliably for many years, it requires a bit of your attention. The blade is forged from excellent DNH7 carbon steel, which holds an edge brilliantly but is susceptible to rust. After every use, especially after cutting damp or acidic foods, you must carefully clean the blade, dry it completely, and apply a thin layer of a suitable protective gun or camellia oil. Occasionally treat the rosewood handle with linseed oil or beeswax so the wood retains its beautiful grain and does not dry out. The stunning leather sheath, featuring a stamped Celtic knot, requires regular treatment with a high-quality leather balm to keep it supple and weather-resistant. Under no circumstances should this knife be put in a dishwasher.
Recommended Accessories
To accompany this hand-forged knife, we highly recommend purchasing a quality water whetstone and a reliable protective oil, which form the absolute essential foundation for the regular maintenance of carbon steel.
