Horn, much like bone and leather, was one of the most readily available and versatile materials throughout history. People used it for its lightness, strength, and ease of working to create everyday objects – from combs and buttons to knife handles and tableware like drinking horns and bowls. Archaeological finds from sites across Europe confirm that horn bowls were a common part of households from the Iron Age through the Middle Ages.
Important Care and Use Instructions
To ensure your bowl serves you well for a long time, you must follow a few guidelines. The inside of the bowl is treated with a food-safe resin lacquer, which protects it and ensures it is safe for use.
- The bowl is suitable for cold and lukewarm food and drinks (water, beer, mead, wine).
- After use, wash it by hand only in lukewarm water with a little mild soap and dry it thoroughly immediately.
- Never put the bowl in a dishwasher or expose it to high temperatures.
- Do not place the bowl in a microwave.
- Do not pour hot food or drinks into it, as this could cause irreversible damage to the lacquer and the horn itself.
- Avoid liquids with an alcohol content of over 20% and highly acidic foods, which could damage the internal lacquer.
