The philosophical and artistic concept of Memento Mori (remember that you must die) has permeated European history since the Middle Ages and was particularly popular during the Victorian era when it appeared on jewellery and accessories as a reminder of our mortality. Knuckledusters (brass knuckles), as close-combat weapons, saw a massive surge in use during the American Civil War and subsequently became a favoured tool of street gangs in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (such as the famous Parisian Apaches or the Birmingham Peaky Blinders). These bans are founded on very valid reasons. The consequences of using this weapon are devastating. Furthermore, the specific bone shape concentrates the striking force into smaller points, creating an even more crushing impact than standard knuckledusters with a flat front edge.

When strikes are directed at human tissue and the head, it is incredibly easy to fracture bones, crush the skull, and in extreme cases, cause the death of the opponent. What starts as a simple brawl or an attempt at defence can very easily turn into a fatal tragedy. We therefore strongly advise against the actual use of this product in fistfights, close-combat training, or stage combat. Brass Care and Maintenance

The product is cast from solid brass, an alloy of copper and zinc. Brass naturally reacts to moisture, sweat, and air, developing a characteristic darker patina over time. If you prefer an antiqued look, simply wiping the surface occasionally with a dry cloth is sufficient. However, if you desire to maintain a permanent high gloss, it is advisable to regularly treat the product with special polishing pastes designed for brass and precious metals.
