In addition to the large peace symbol (the CND sign) and the word "Peace", the cover is framed by a decorative border. Did you know where the peace symbol comes from? This now-iconic symbol was designed in 1958 by the British artist Gerald Holtom. He created it for the British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) for the first Easter March from London to the Aldermaston nuclear weapons research establishment. The symbol itself is a combination of two semaphore (flag signalling) characters: "N" for "Nuclear" and "D" for "Disarmament".
