Stainless Steel Heater Shield with Brass Calatrava Cross
History and Symbolism: Guardians of the Fortress
The dominant feature of the shield is the massive brass appliqué in the shape of the Cross of Calatrava. This symbol, a Greek cross with arms ending in fleurs-de-lis, belonged to the first military order founded in Castile in 1158. The monk-knights of this order defended the fortress of Calatrava against the Moors. While historically the cross was depicted as red on a white field, this luxurious version uses polished brass on stainless steel. This creates a breathtaking contrast of silver and gold colors, symbolizing not only martial glory but also the spiritual purity and wealth of the order.
The shape is a classic heater shield with a top edge decoratively shaped into three points. The perimeter of the shield is lined with brass rivets, emphasizing its historical character.
Installation and Usage
The shield is designed exclusively as a wall decoration. The back is coated with protective paint and equipped with a sturdy metal chain. Installation is very easy—simply hang it on a strong hook. Thanks to the mirror-like shine of the steel, the shield optically enlarges the space and reflects light, adding grandeur to the interior.
