Viking Goblet Drakkar with Removable Stainless Steel Insert

Legend-Inspired Design

The body of the goblet is formed by the hull of a Viking ship – a Drakkar, with round shields hung along its sides, just as we know from history and sagas. The dominant feature of the chalice is the relief head of a Viking warrior with a thick beard. As a historian, I must note that although the warrior wears a helmet with horns – which is a now-debunked myth from the 19th century and opera costumes (real Vikings did not have horns on their helmets) – in the realm of fantasy and pop culture, this element is an inseparable part of the rugged Norse aesthetic. Behind the head, two battle axes are crossed. The stem of the goblet is decorated with a Celtic knot pattern, and the base bears symbols resembling runic script.

Historical Insight: What is a Drakkar?

The word "Drakkar" likely comes from the term for dragon (drekkar). These were long, slender warships that featured a carved dragon or serpent head on the prow. This fearsome element was intended not only to intimidate enemies during raids but, according to superstition, also to protect the crew from evil sea spirits and monsters. When Vikings returned home, they often removed the figureheads so as not to offend or frighten their own local gods and land spirits.

Practical Use and Care

A major advantage of this goblet is its construction. The interior consists of a removable stainless steel insert. This means you can enjoy your drink from hygienically safe steel that does not affect the taste, while not having to worry about complicated cleaning of the ornate surface.

How to care for the goblet:

To keep the goblet looking like new for a long time, follow these steps:

  • Always remove the stainless steel insert from the goblet body before washing.
  • Only the stainless steel insert itself is dishwasher safe.
  • Never put the outer resin part in the dishwasher and do not soak it unnecessarily in water. Simply wipe it with a damp cloth.
  • Do not use the goblet in a microwave.
  • It is suitable for cold and warm drinks, but avoid boiling liquids, which could damage the resin.
