Solid Flat Rings 9 mm for Alternating Weave, Mild Steel, 1 kg Pack - Outlet

Want to speed up the process of making your chainmail while maintaining historical accuracy? This 1 kg pack of solid flat rings is the smart solution for every armourer. These rings are not meant to be riveted themselves; they are used in combination with riveted rings to create the so-called alternating 4-in-1 weave. This historically documented method, where a row of solid rings alternates with a row of riveted ones, dramatically shortens the required construction time. As a result, you only need to rivet half of the rings, yet the strength and appearance of the armour remain top-notch. They are ideal for building large-scale projects like hauberks or chausses. Solid Flat Rings 9 mm for Alternating Weave, Mild Steel, 1 kg Pack

Speed Up Your Project with Historical Accuracy

The principle of the alternating weave is ingeniously simple. One row is composed of these solid (closed) rings. The next row is then made up of riveted rings, which you weave through and rivet shut to connect the rows of solid rings. In this way, you not only save countless hours of work but also create armour that is consistent with archaeological findings. These rings are precision-stamped from mild steel, ensuring uniform size and shape for a perfect, smooth finish on the final mail.

Important: For a complete project, be sure to combine them with our corresponding 9 mm flat riveted rings. These solid rings do not serve as connectors on their own.

Important Note on the Material

The rings are made from mild steel, which is consistent with historical methods. The material is not stainless. The rings are oiled after production to prevent immediate corrosion. However, during storage and use, natural surface oxidation will occur, manifesting as an uneven darkening and the development of a patina. This is a normal characteristic of the material that gives the armour an authentic look and does not diminish its quality.

Care of Chainmail Armour

To prevent your chainmail from rusting, it is crucial to keep it dry and regularly oiled. After each use, especially in a humid environment, dry it thoroughly. Then, lightly spray it with a preservative oil (e.g., WD-40 or Ballistol) and wipe off any excess with a cloth.
