Viking Torc with Wolf Heads, Solid Brass

The Incredible Story of This Torc

This torc has an unbelievable journey through time. Its historical predecessor was crafted in the 10th or 11th century on the island of Gotland, Sweden, in the heart of the Viking world. From there, it travelled along trade routes to Russia, where it became part of a Moscow prince's treasure. In 1238, when the Mongol Golden Horde arrived at the gates of Moscow, the prince, fearing plunder, had his most valuable treasures buried. His hiding place was so perfect that the torc lay in the ground for over 750 years before it was discovered by chance during construction work in 1988. Now, you can wear a replica of this lost and rediscovered treasure!

A Symbol of Power and Protection

Torcs were not common jewellery for everyone in ancient times. They were a badge of power and high social standing, worn by gods, rulers, elite warriors, and princesses. It was believed they provided protection to the wearer. The wolf heads can allude to strength, ferocity, and the loyalty of the pack, or to mythological wolves such as Odin's companions, Geri and Freki.

How to Wear and Adjust Your Torc

The torc is designed to be put on easily and worn comfortably.

  1. Grasp the torc by both terminals (the heads).
  2. With a gentle and slow pull, open the ends sideways (like opening a gate), not apart from each other. This creates enough of a gap to slip it onto your neck from the side.
  3. Place it on your neck and, again with gentle pressure, squeeze the ends back towards each other until it sits comfortably.

Warning: Avoid repeated and excessive bending in the same spot to prevent metal fatigue and potential breakage.

Caring for Your Brass Jewellery

Brass naturally darkens over time, acquiring a patina that enhances its historical look. If you wish to maintain its bright shine, you can polish the jewellery with a cloth and a brass cleaner. Protect it from contact with harsh chemicals. Please note that for some people, brass can temporarily leave a harmless green mark on the skin, which is a natural reaction and can be easily washed off.
