Chainmail Aventail 9mm - Riveted/Solid Rings 9mm 18g (Alternating)
This particular aventail is constructed from mild steel rings, presenting a natural metallic finish. It prominently features an alternating pattern, meaning it combines rows of round rings, securely fastened with round rivets, with rows of solid (uncut) round rings. This well-established construction method significantly enhances the mail's overall strength and resistance to tearing, whilst retaining the necessary flexibility for ease of movement. The individual rings have an inner diameter of 9 mm and are crafted from wire approximately 1.2 mm thick (equivalent to the standard 18 gauge). The inner edge of the aventail, the section that attaches directly to the helmet, is fitted with a practical leather dagging strip (brown in colour).

Use and Attachment:
In the Middle Ages, particularly before the widespread use of plate gorgets in the 14th century, the chainmail aventail served as a standard and vital piece of protection for a warrior's vulnerable neck and shoulder area. It offers effective defence against cutting attacks and provides partial protection against thrusts. Today, this type of aventail is an ideal component for historical reenactment, LARP, completing your costume for medieval festivals, theatrical use, or as an authentic addition to a collectible helmet. It is typically attached to the helmet (which is usually equipped with vervelles or attachment holes) by threading a round leather thong or a strong linen or hemp cord through the holes in the aventail's leather edging and then through the corresponding points on the helmet's rim.
Enhance your suit of armour with this functional and historically faithful element of protection. The combination of riveted and solid rings ensures not only good durability but also a convincing appearance for your next medieval adventure.
