Medieval steel pan with long handle – Oseberg replica

Description and features:

  • Authentic design: this pan retains the simple yet functional design of the original Viking pan.
  • Material: made of solid 2 mm thick iron, which guarantees durability and a long service life.
  • Dimensions: The pan measures approximately 20cm in diameter, which is ideal for preparing portions for one to two people.
  • The total length of the pan with handle is an impressive 75.5cm. The handle is approximately 56cm long, allowing you to safely handle the pan over an open fire without burning yourself.
  • The pan is attached to the handle with a single rivet, allowing the pan to rotate. The handle is 25 mm wide below the pan.
  • Decorative feature: The handle is elegantly twisted 12-17 cm from the pan, which increases the pan's aesthetic value but does not affect its functionality.
  • Handy hanging hole: At the end of the handle is a hanging hole (approx. 33 x 26 mm) for easy storage when not in use.

Historical context and points of interest:

  • Viking feasting: More kitchen utensils found in the Oseberg ship reveal the importance of feasting and sharing food in Viking society.
  • Travelling and Camping: The long handle suggests that the pan was likely used over an open fire, either at home or on the road.
  • Viking Lifestyles: This type of pan offers a glimpse into the Vikings' daily lives and culinary practices.

How to use (and enjoy!) the pan:

  • Campfires with friends: Take the pan on a camping trip or to a historical festival and prepare an authentic meal over an open fire. How about some fried bacon and eggs for breakfast or grilled meat and vegetables for dinner?
  • Living history: The frying pan is a great addition to historical reenactments, LARPing (Live Action Role-Playing) or to learn about Viking life.
  • Even if you don't have a campfire, you can try the pan on the grill or even (carefully!) on the gas stove for an authentic experience.
  • Decoration: When you're not using the pan, you can hang it on the wall as a stylish and historically interesting decoration for your kitchen, home or workshop.
  • With tripod (sold separately): For more authenticity, consider a tripod to get even closer to the Viking original.

Tip: Before first use, you should light the pan over a fire and oil it to create a protective layer. Wash and dry the pan thoroughly after each use to prevent rust.
