Your woollen cloak wouldn't stay on your body if it wasn't fastened at the front with a ring fibula. This hand-forged ring fibula will serve you well for this purpose. It has an inner diameter of approx. 8 cm and its ring brooch slides around its circumference. Fibulae like this were worn by both men and women with the point facing upwards and an Irish law code says that in the case of injury caused by the points on a fibulae the bearer was excused from fault so long as the pin was not sticking outwards too far. How is this ring fibula closed?
Stitch into the fabric at the needle where the ring fibula is to hold the garment. Then thread the needle between the ends of the ring fibula and turn the ring of the brooch 90 degrees under the tip of the needle. When you let go of the ring, the fabric immediately presses the needle against the ring and the ring fibula remains closed.
