During the Renaissance period (15th and 16th centuries), the belt ceased to be merely a practical piece of equipment and became a highly decorative element reflecting the wearer's social status. Broad belts richly decorated with floral and geometric fittings were worn by the lower and upper nobility, wealthy burghers, and feared Landsknechts. This particular model features a metal strap end (chape), which not only finishes the strap aesthetically but historically made it easier to thread through the buckle and weighted the free end so it hung neatly downwards. The buckle is hand-sewn to the strap using strong linen thread, fully conforming to period leatherworking practices.

Proper Tying and Wearing

The length of 150 cm (59 inches) gives you absolute freedom in how to wear the belt. The strap is traditionally fastened at the buckle, and the long free end equipped with the strap end is then passed underneath the fastened belt from the bottom up, and threaded down through the resulting loop. This creates an elegant historical knot. To ensure the belt fits your waist circumference and specific costume layers absolutely perfectly, it is deliberately supplied without pre-punched holes. Using a leather hole punch, you can create the holes exactly where you truly need them.

Proper Leather Care Instructions

This high-quality belt is handmade from genuine cowhide leather with a respectable thickness of up to 3.5 mm (0.14 inches). Subtle variations in colour and surface texture are natural properties of this material and make each piece a unique original. To ensure the leather maintains its flexibility and colour stability over the long term, it requires care. Treat the strap at least once a season with a high-quality leather balm based on beeswax. Under no circumstances should you dry the leather near a direct heat source (radiator, hairdryer, open fire), otherwise it could harden and crack irreversibly.

Crucial Warnings

Although the strap is very robust, keep in mind that the intricately cast buckle and strap end are primarily decorative in nature. The belt is not designed for securing people or pulling heavy loads. We do not recommend exposing it to extreme tension during hard full-contact combat (buhurt), where the decorative fittings could be damaged.
