The Lord of the Rings – original merch, gifts & legendary Middle-earth artifacts
The Lord of the Rings is one of the greatest fantasy stories ever written. The movie trilogy consists of three films: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Each chapter follows the Fellowship’s journey to destroy the One Ring while steadily growing in epic scope and emotional intensity. There’s also a prequel trilogy, The Hobbit, which tells the events leading up to The Lord of the Rings.
How many parts are there in Lord of the Rings?
The Lord of the Rings is a single story that was originally published in three volumes. Peter Jackson’s iconic film trilogy follows the same three-part structure.
- The Fellowship of the Ring: The beginning of the journey, formation of the Fellowship, leaving the Shire.
- The Two Towers: The Fellowship splits, the Battle of Helm’s Deep, and the Last March of the Ents.
- The Return of the King: The epic climax at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and the final fate of the Ring.
So, the main saga has three films, but including The Hobbit, we get a total of six Middle-earth movies.
How to read Tolkien’s books? (Chronology)
If you want to experience the story as it unfolds in Middle-earth’s timeline, we recommend this order:
- The Hobbit: A lighter introduction that sets everything in motion. It tells the story of how Bilbo Baggins found the Ring and met Gandalf.
- The Lord of the Rings (trilogy): The central, most complex work, set about 60 years after the events of The Hobbit.
- The Silmarillion: A masterpiece for true connoisseurs of Tolkien’s lore. It provides a broader context for the events described in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, describing the creation of the world, the First Age, and much more.

What is The Lord of the Rings about?
The entire plot revolves around the One Ring, forged by the Dark Lord Sauron in the fire of Mount Doom. Sauron passed his power into the Ring, with the intention to dominate and control all living beings.
The Ring, infused with Sauron’s power, could turn its bearer invisible, prolong their life and even make them incredibly powerful. But it came at a significant cost of slowly consuming their soul, as we see with Gollum.
The Ring also has a will of its own and always seeks to return to its master, Sauron. If Sauron were to reclaim the Ring, Middle-earth would fall into a second darkness.
“One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.”
So what IS The Lord of the Rings about?
The story begins in the Shire, where the hobbit Frodo inherits the Ring, passed down to him by his uncle Bilbo. Gandalf soon discovers what the ring is. He reveals to Frodo that it is, in fact, the One Ring, and that it must be destroyed in the very fires where it was forged.
The Fellowship of the Ring is formed: hobbits, men, an Elf, a Dwarf, and a wizard. Their mission is to protect Frodo on his perilous mission. The Fellowship has to face orc attacks, Saruman’s schemes, and inner conflicts that eventually tear the Fellowship apart.
As Frodo and his loyal friend Sam make their way into Mordor, the remaining heroes, led by Aragorn, battle Saruman’s forces and clear the way for the Ring’s final journey into the heart of the Dark Lord’s realm.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Amazon’s series takes us deep into Middle-earth’s past – the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of the LOTR films.
It tells the story of how the Rings were forged, about Sauron’s rise to power, and the tragic downfall of Númenor. The story brings back Galadriel and Elrond, but as much younger versions of the characters we know from the Lord of the Rings films. We’re gradually expanding our range for fans of the new series.
