Chasity belt for women

According to modern myths the chastity belt was used as an anti-temptation device during the Crusades. When the knight left for the Holy Lands on the Crusades, his Lady would wear a chastity belt to preserve her faithfulness to him. However, there is no credible evidence that chastity belts existed before the 15th century (more than one hundred years after the last Crusade), and their main period of apparent use falls within the Renaissance rather than the Middle Ages. Iron Chastity Belt Replica – The Crusader Myth

Are you looking for a truly unusual historical prop, an original gag gift for a bachelorette party, or do you just want to spice up your collection of curiosities? This metal chastity belt is a fascinating piece that immediately grabs attention. Although it is made as a wearable replica from approx. 1 mm (approx. 19 gauge) thick steel sheet, its primary purpose today is entertainment, theatre, or decoration. The blackened finish and distinct riveting give it an authentic, rough medieval look. With this belt in your hands, you hold not just a piece of metal, but a piece of a legend that has teased human imagination for centuries.

Chastity Belt Was Meant for Protection, but it Became a Tool for Torture

History vs. Fiction: The Real Story

When someone mentions a chastity belt, most of us imagine a jealous knight departing for a crusade, ensuring his wife's fidelity this way. However, historical reality is different. Experts and historians agree that these items did not exist during the Crusades. The first mentions and depictions appear much later, in the Renaissance (approx. 15th century), and often only in satirical books. Most "medieval" examples in museums are actually fakes from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is assumed that if they were actually used, they served more as protection for women against rape during wartime or as a bizarre sex toy, rather than a tool of long-term marital oppression.

Usage and Warning

This replica is fully articulated and hinged, allowing it to be put on. It consists of a waist belt and a vertical plate with a toothed cutout. Locking is achieved via a loop at the top where a padlock can be placed (lock is not included).

Important Warning: Although the belt is technically wearable, I strongly advise against long-term wear. The metal sheet is hard, cold, and the edges, while not knife-sharp, can cause chafing during movement. From a hygienic and health perspective, long-term wear is dangerous. However, it is ideal for photo shoots, short theatre scenes, or as a LARP prop. If you plan to wear it over a costume, I recommend a thick layer of fabric or padding underneath.

Product Care

Since the belt is made of steel sheet which can be subject to corrosion, it requires maintenance:

  • Store it in a dry place. Moisture is the number one enemy.
  • Occasionally treat the metal with preservation oil (e.g., WD-40 or silicone oil) to prevent rust and maintain the mobility of the hinges.
  • If you use the belt as a wall decoration, simply wiping it with a dry cloth to remove dust from time to time is sufficient.

A period-appropriate padlock would go perfectly with this product to underline the rustic look of the entire set.
