Soldier's Leather Satchel (1500–1700) – Natural

Essential Gear for Every Soldier and Adventurer

In the 16th and 17th centuries, with the evolution of firearms and changes in fashion, shoulder bags (often called haversacks) became increasingly common. Soldiers used them to carry ammunition, flint, rations, as well as personal valuables like dice or cards to pass the time in camp.

This model is crafted from high-quality natural vegetable-tanned leather. Its light shade serves as an ideal canvas for your own patina – over time and with use, the leather will darken beautifully and acquire that sought-after "worn" look. The bag closes with a simple flap secured by a strap and brass buckle, ensuring nothing falls out even when you're on the run. The shoulder strap is adjustable, allowing you to customize the length to fit your build or accommodate layers of clothing.

Leather Care Instructions

Since this is a natural material, it deserves some care to ensure it serves you well for many years:

  • Conditioning: The leather is supplied in its natural state. We recommend treating it with quality leather balm, neatsfoot oil, or beeswax. This will soften the leather, make it more water-resistant, and give it a darker, historically richer tone.
  • Cleaning: Remove dirt with a damp cloth. Never wash the bag in a machine and do not dry it near direct heat sources (radiators, fire) to prevent the leather from cracking.
  • Uniqueness: Small scars, wrinkles, or color variations are not defects but proof that this is genuine natural material processed using traditional techniques.

Recommended Accessories

This bag pairs perfectly with our rapier and sword replicas. If you are portraying a marksman, don't forget to complement it with a powder flask to create the perfect set.
