Stainless Steel Throwing Knife

If you are looking for a throwing knife that has some "heft" to it and feels like a real tool in your hand, the Black Eagle model is spot on. With a total length of 220 mm (approx. 8.7 inches) and weighing nearly 150 grams, it moves out of the category of small light knives and ranks among medium-heavy models. This is great news for your accuracy – a heavier knife is more stable in flight and sticks easier. It is made from a single piece of quality 420 stainless steel (full-tang construction), ensuring high resistance to breakage. The tactical look is underscored by a blackened finish and a handle wrapped in black nylon cord. This not only provides a comfortable, non-slip grip but also dampens vibrations when releasing the knife. Further product information ...

Black Eagle Stainless Steel Throwing Knife – 22 cm / 8.7"

Construction and Handling

The blade features a leaf shape (spear-point) with a false edge on the spine, providing excellent penetration capabilities. Thanks to its balance and ergonomic shape, this knife is suitable for various throwing styles – whether you prefer throwing by the handle or by the blade. Included in the package is a sturdy black Cordura sheath that can be looped onto a belt. The knife is secured with a snap-button strap, so it won't fall out during movement.

History: Tool of Silent Warriors

While throwing knives played more of a supplementary role in medieval battles, they were always prized tools in the hands of specialized units and scouts. This modern design carries the legacy of "Kunai" type knives, made famous by Japanese ninjas. Just like historical prototypes, this knife combines the function of a weapon and a tool – the handle wrap can be unwound in an emergency and used as strong binding cord.

Important Principles for Long Life

A throwing knife is a piece of steel, but it is not indestructible. To ensure your Black Eagle serves you for years:

  • Target Selection: Throw exclusively into soft materials. Soft wood (poplar, spruce, lime) or specialized foam target butts are ideal. If you hit a knot, hard wood, stone, or another metal object, the knife will blunt, may bend, or even break. Such damage is not a manufacturing defect.
  • Edge Maintenance: Burrs can form on the edges and tip upon impact. Regularly check the knife and file down any roughness to prevent cutting yourself on the next throw.
  • Wrap Care: The cord on the handle is a consumable item. If you cut it with another knife during practice, don't despair. It is normal wear and tear. You can easily replace the cord with any paracord and even personalize the colour of the knife.

For starters, I recommend purchasing a quality foam target butt with the knife, which saves the blade and dampens the noise of impacts.
