Replacement Nock for Aluminium Arrows

The nock is a small but absolutely critical part of the arrow. It transfers all the energy from the string to the shaft. If it is cracked or damaged, shooting becomes impossible and dangerous. This replacement push-on nock in transparent orange is designed specifically for repairing aluminium arrows (compatible with model 33055). It is made of durable plastic that withstands the impact of the string, but also serves as a safety feature – in case of extreme overload, the nock breaks, not the bow shaft. Its distinctive colour also helps you find the arrow in grass or deep snow. Always keep a few in your service kit so your training doesn't have to end prematurely. Further product information ...

Replacement Nock for Aluminium Arrows – Orange

Installation and Compatibility

This type of nock is designed to fit over the tapered cone (swaged end) of an aluminium arrow. It is not an internal insert, but a "glue-on" system for the outer cone. Carefully cut or break off the old damaged nock (if it is stuck fast, you can heat the remaining plastic over a flame to soften it, but be careful not to overheat the aluminium). Clean the shaft cone of old glue residue, apply a drop of fletching glue or superglue, and slide the new nock on with a twisting motion. Ensure the nock groove is perpendicular to the index (red) vane.

Historical Context: From Horn to Plastic

In the Middle Ages, archers did not have the luxury of replaceable plastic nocks. The groove for the string was carved directly into the wood of the shaft (self-nock). To prevent the wood from splitting under the force of the string upon release, a slice of horn was glued into the groove, or the arrow end was wrapped with linen thread soaked in glue. Today's plastic nocks are not only safer but primarily ensure that every arrow leaves the string in exactly the same way (consistent shot), which was not always the rule with hand-carved wooden grooves.

Safety Warning

The nock is the most stressed part of the arrow. Briefly inspect it before every shot:

  • Cracks: If you see the "ears" of the nock turning white (a sign of stress) or containing a crack, replace the nock immediately. A nock breaking at full draw can lead to a "dry fire" and damage to both the bow and the archer.
  • Fit: The nock must "click" onto the string and hold, but at the same time must move freely. If it is too tight, it will affect the shot. If too loose, the arrow will fall off.

I recommend adding suitable glue to your basket so you can perform the repair immediately upon delivery.
