Historical Context and Fashion Evolution

The inspiration for this garment dates back to the second half of the 14th century, a time of great change in European fashion. Clothes began to be more tailored to the body, and the use of luxurious, expensive materials surged. A completely typical element of this era are the extremely long hanging sleeves (tippets), which were intended to demonstrate the wealth of the wearer – the more expensive fabric was seemingly "wasted", the higher her social status. A prominent accessory is also the headwear, the so-called kruseler. This veil, bordered with dense rows of ruffles, was a massive fashion trend in Central Europe (especially in the Holy Roman Empire) and was worn exclusively by married women from well-to-do families.

Usage and Garment Care

This medieval ladies' costume is a perfect choice for historical reenactment, LARP, cosplay, and various period festivities. To ensure your dress remains in perfect condition for as long as possible, it requires delicate care. Given the combination of cotton velvet, brocade with metallic fibres, and faux fur, we strongly recommend professional dry cleaning. If you decide to wash it at home, opt only for very gentle hand washing in lukewarm water (max. 30°C / 86°F) without aggressive detergents. Do not wring the garment; simply squeeze the water out gently. Never iron the faux fur parts, as this would result in irreversible melting and destruction of the fibres!

Safety Warnings

Due to the use of synthetic materials (polyester and polyamide in the brocade and faux fur), it is absolutely essential that you avoid open flames. Synthetic fibres are highly flammable and, if they melt, can stick to the skin and cause severe burns. The costume is also not designed as protective clothing and offers no protection during contact fencing or combat training.
