Writing by hand on handmade paper is proven to stimulate creativity and helps organise thoughts more effectively than digital devices. The cover is reinforced along the edges with decorative leather stitching, increasing its durability for frequent travel in a satchel or backpack.

The internal block consists of natural handmade paper with its characteristic texture and an ochre hue. Since this is a handmade product using natural materials, please keep in mind that the colour shade of the leather and the texture of the paper may vary slightly from the photographs, ensuring every piece is a total original.

Historical Context and Symbolism

Leather-bound notebooks, or codices, replaced cumbersome scrolls as early as Late Antiquity. The codex format allowed for much easier navigation and better protection of the precious text. The dragon motif in Celtic symbolism represents the union of celestial and earthly forces. Dragons were considered guardians of the gates to other worlds and protectors of treasures – in this case, your knowledge. Similarly decorated books were historically the privilege of scholars who encrypted their most valuable secrets within them. This grimoire carries a piece of that history and honest craftsmanship.

Maintenance and Safety Warnings

To ensure your journal lasts for many years, we recommend treating the leather occasionally with a quality leather balm containing beeswax. Keep the paper dry. We recommend writing or drawing on the pages with pencils, charcoal, ballpoint pens, coloured pencils, or oil paints. However, strictly avoid using classic fountain pen ink or watercolours – due to the high absorbency of the handmade paper, the colours may bleed and soak through the pages.

Do not expose the journal to open flames or high temperatures, as the leather may crack and the paper could ignite. The inset stone is securely fastened, but avoid dropping the journal on hard surfaces, which could damage the stone or the binding. We recommend a leather belt pouch or brass writing instruments from our collection to accompany your journal.
