Proper Care for Carbon Steel and the Wooden Haft

This tool is crafted from traditional, natural materials which require some basic maintenance to preserve their beauty and functionality. The carbon steel head is exceptionally strong and easy to sharpen, but unlike stainless steel, it is susceptible to rust. After any use in wet conditions or after chopping green, sappy wood, the steel must be wiped completely dry and treated with a thin coat of gun or tool oil. We recommend occasionally rubbing the wooden haft with boiled linseed oil to prevent the timber from drying out and cracking. The protective leather sheath deserves regular treatment with a beeswax-based balm to keep the hide supple and resistant to moisture.

This hatchet is delivered from the factory with a very sharp edge. Please remember that this is an unforgiving working tool. For strict safety reasons, this axe is not designed for throwing, historical fencing, or LARP battles. When chopping, always ensure a firm stance and swing in such a way that if you miss your target, the blade's trajectory will safely bypass your legs and body. Whenever the tool is not in active use, always snap on the protective leather cover.
