The Dollar of the Middle Ages and Its Story

The Prague Groschen entered circulation in the Kingdom of Bohemia around the year 1300. Its creation is linked to the massive discovery of silver ore in Kutná Hora and the monetary reform of King Wenceslaus II, who issued the famous royal mining code, "Ius regale montanorum." Thanks to its high silver content and stable quality, the Groschen quickly gained popularity and became one of the strongest currencies in Europe at the time, often nicknamed the "Dollar of the Middle Ages."

Interestingly, its design remained virtually unchanged throughout its entire existence. The obverse always bore the name and title of the ruler surrounding the Bohemian crown, while the reverse featured the majestic Bohemian lion with the inscription "GROSSI PRAGENSES" (Prague Groschen).

Precise Craftsmanship

These coins are struck from dies that have been hand-engraved using classic medieval techniques. Each piece thus carries the spirit of honest craftsmanship and is designed to be as close to the historical originals as possible.

How to Care for Your Coins

To keep your Groschen looking their best, simply follow a few basic principles. Store them in a dry place to prevent oxidation. To restore their shine, you can gently polish them with a soft, dry cloth. If needed, you can use special cleaning products designed for pewter.

What to Avoid: Never clean the coins with harsh brushes, abrasive cleaners, or aggressive chemicals that could damage their surface. This is a replica and not legal tender.
