Medieval Replica Coin – Denar of Duke Bořivoj II – 10 or 100 Pcs (Aluminium, 18,5 mm)
History and Appearance of the Coin
This coin is an artistic reproduction of a silver denar that served as legal tender in the Duchy of Bohemia in the early 12th century. Each piece is stamped from lightweight and durable aluminium using hand-engraved dies. This process, inspired by medieval techniques, gives the coins an authentic look and feel. As a result, no two coins are perfectly identical, making each one seem like a genuine historical artifact.
Obverse and Reverse of the Coin
The Obverse (front) side depicts the ruler himself, Duke Bořivoj II, in armour on a galloping horse. The figure holds a spear, symbolizing his military power and determination. The motif is framed by a beaded circle and the Latin inscription DUX BORIVOI (Duke Bořivoj).
The Reverse (back) side is dedicated to the patron saint of the Czech lands. In the central field, you will see the figure of Saint Wenceslas holding a book in one hand and raising the other in a gesture of blessing. His sanctity is emphasized by the halo around his head. The inscription reads SWENCEZLAUS (Saint Wenceslas), confirming the link to the celestial protector and the ruler's effort to legitimize his reign.
Who Was Duke Bořivoj II?
Bořivoj II of the Přemyslid dynasty was a Bohemian duke whose reign was quite turbulent. He ascended to the throne twice, from 1100–1107 and again from 1117–1120. His rule was marked by constant disputes and power struggles with other members of the Přemyslid dynasty. Minting denars with the image of Saint Wenceslas was not only an expression of piety but also a clever political move by which Bořivoj II consolidated his position and claimed the protection of the nation's highest patron saint.

Caring for Your Coin
To keep your coin looking its best for as long as possible, simply follow a few simple guidelines.
How to Preserve Its Shine
Store your coin in a dry place. Aluminium is resistant to corrosion, but prolonged exposure to moisture is not recommended. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, acids, or perfumes.
How to Treat and Polish It
If the coin loses its lustre over time or gets dirty, a soft, dry cloth (e.g., a microfiber cloth) is all you need to restore it. Gentle polishing will easily bring back its original shine.
What to Avoid
Never use the coin as legal tender. Do not clean it with hard brushes, steel wool, or abrasive cleaners, as this would permanently scratch its surface.
