Design and Construction for Conquerors

This replica is handcrafted with an emphasis on historical fidelity and practical use for reenactment, LARP, or as a premium collector's item.

  • Iconic Shape: The high, almond-shaped crest and characteristic sweeping brim not only give the helmet its unmistakable look but were designed to effectively deflect downward cuts and projectiles, a crucial advantage during sieges.
  • Robust Steel: The helmet is forged from 16-gauge (1.6 mm) mild steel, which provides solid protection while maintaining a reasonable weight for comfortable wear.
  • Comfortable Interior: Inside, you'll find a full, adjustable leather suspension liner with a drawstring. This is complemented by leather cheek flaps and a chin strap with a buckle, ensuring the helmet fits securely and safely on your head.

Who Were the Tercios? A Symbol of Spanish Dominance

The Tercios were elite Spanish soldiers who dominated the battlefields of Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. They formed the backbone of the Spanish infantry and were renowned for their discipline, training, and combat effectiveness. Each "tercio" comprised roughly 3,000 men, divided into smaller companies. They fought in tight pike-and-shot formations that combined the defensive strength of pikemen with the firepower of arquebusiers. This tactic proved devastatingly effective against traditional armies that relied on cavalry charges.

Caring for Your Helmet

  1. Your helmet is treated with a thin layer of oil for corrosion protection during shipping. Simply wipe it clean with a dry cloth before use.
  2. After each use, wipe the steel surface dry to prevent rust.
  3. Periodically apply a thin coat of a protective oil (like Ballistol or WD-40).
  4. Keep the leather parts supple with a quality leather conditioner.
