Black Tactical Police Handcuffs from K70 Steel with Double Lock

The History of Handcuffs and the Evolution of Police Gear

While heavy, cumbersome, and custom-forged iron shackles were used in the Middle Ages and the early modern period to immobilize captives, the true revolution in modern police gear arrived at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1912, inventor George Carney patented a mechanism with a swinging bow (the swing-through design), which allowed handcuffs to be applied quickly and smoothly with just one hand. This concept remains in use today in an unaltered form. Connecting both cuffs via a short chain provides the ideal compromise between restricting the detainee's movement and maintaining flexibility during application. The black finish for weapons and restraints became standard among special and tactical units during the 1980s for camouflage purposes.

Proper Use and Steel Maintenance Tips

These handcuffs are equipped with a Double Lock system. Once applied to the wrist and ratcheted to the desired position, the mechanism is secured by pressing the small pin on the edge of the cuff using the spike on the back of the provided key. This blocks the ratchet mechanism, preventing the handcuffs from tightening any further, which protects the detained person from loss of circulation or nerve damage. To unlock, you must first turn the key in one direction (to disengage the double lock) and then in the opposite direction (to open the cuff completely). K70 steel is a highly tough spring steel with a high carbon content. To maintain smooth operation and protect against rust, we strongly recommend regularly treating the moving parts, rivets, and keyhole with a drop of high-quality gun oil.

Crucial Safety and Legal Warning

Always bear in mind that this product is a fully functional and professional restraint device! It is not a fragile plastic toy. Exercise extreme caution when using handcuffs during LARP, airsoft, or film shooting. A handcuffed person is highly vulnerable in the event of a fall. Never leave a handcuffed individual unattended, and always keep the keys securely on your person. The use of restraints to restrict personal liberty is governed by strict laws in real life, and unauthorized use can be classified as a serious criminal offence (false imprisonment).
