Set of 12 Red Crusader Figurines – Hospitallers at War
Four Stances, Twelve Heroes in Red
The set contains a total of 12 figurines divided into 4 different designs (you will find 3 pieces of each design in the package). The figurines are made of polyresin and hand-painted.
- Guardian with Greatsword: A knight in a calm stance, resting his hands on the hilt of a large sword planted in the ground. His red surcoat and shield are adorned with a distinct white cross.
- Spearman: A warrior holding a long spear in his right hand and a heater shield with a white cross in his left. Ideal for second-row formations.
- Attacking Swordsman: A knight drawing his sword, ready to strike, covered by a shield. A dynamic pose for the front line.
- Commander with Drawn Sword: A figure in a firm stance with a drawn sword pointing towards the ground and a shield ready for defence.
Historical and Gaming Use
While early Hospitallers (Knights of St. John) wore black mantles, in 1248 Pope Innocent IV authorized the order to wear a red surcoat with a white cross in battle to be easily distinguishable from other orders. This set thus historically represents the Hospitallers in the high and late period of the Crusades. With a height of 7.5 cm (approx. 3 inches), these figurines are larger than standard 28mm miniatures, so they will appear as "hero scale" (approx. 1:24) or as standalone decorative statues on your table.
Caring for Your Red Guard
The figurines look durable, but the material requires care:
- Material: Polyresin is hard but brittle. If a figurine falls from a table onto a hard floor, a sword, spear, or part of the base may snap off.
- Cleaning: Remove dust with a fine dry brush. Do not use water or chemical cleaners, which could damage the hand-painting.
