Compact Stainless Steel Outdoor Neck Knife with Micarta Handle

The Historical Concept of Neck Knives

Carrying a smaller backup knife around the neck is no modern invention. This method of carrying a weapon and tool in one was widely used by the indigenous peoples of North America and the early European frontiersmen and trappers. While a heavy chopper hung at the belt for rough work, the small knife on the chest was always immediately at hand for fine carving, skinning, or food preparation. This model successfully builds upon this rich bushcraft tradition whilst utilising the most modern materials available today.

Tough Materials for Survival

The 70 mm (2.76 inches) long blade is crafted from high-quality X50CrMoV15 stainless steel. This is a highly popular and durable material that perfectly combines corrosion resistance with good edge retention and easy field sharpening. The handle itself consists of scales made from the popular Micarta material, which is compressed canvas saturated with an extremely hard resin. It is virtually indestructible, provides an excellent grip even in a wet palm, and the red liners underneath create a gorgeous visual contrast.

Knife Care and Safety Instructions

Remember that this is a smaller, compact tool with a total length of 150 mm (5.91 inches) and a weight of just 100 g (3.53 oz). For this reason, you must under no circumstances use the knife for heavy wood splitting (batoning) or rough prying. This could result in the blade snapping and causing you severe injury. The knife is primarily designed for slicing and cutting. Although the steel is stainless, to maintain its long lifespan and mirror finish, I recommend cleaning the blade of any food residue or natural tree sap after use, rinsing it, and wiping it bone dry. Completely avoid washing it in a dishwasher, as harsh chemicals will degrade the handle. The plastic sheath can simply be rinsed out with clean water if it gets dirty.
