The main purpose was thermal insulation in drafty stone castles and while working outdoors. Another equally important function was shaping the silhouette. A richly gathered petticoat gave the overgarment or overskirt the desired volume, which was a sign of good taste and social standing. This particular underskirt features a wide ruffled bottom hem decorated with fine tucks (pleats). It is exactly this detail that helps the overskirt gain the proper width and visual richness. Today, you will use this piece of clothing mainly for historical fencing, LARP, cosplay, theatrical performances, or medieval fairs. Although it is a historically inspired garment, an emphasis was placed on modern comfort in the waist area – for a secure fit on the hips, the skirt is equipped with a wide elastic waistband.

To achieve a perfect look, we recommend combining this underskirt with a linen blouse, a laced leather bodice, and a contrasting overskirt, which you can elegantly tuck up over your belt, as seen in the photos. Caring for Your Cotton Underskirt

To ensure this garment serves you long and well while retaining its rich blue colour, proper care is essential. The product is made from 100% cotton. The skirt can be machine washed at a maximum temperature of 40 °C (104 °F) using a gentle wash cycle. Under no circumstances should the garment be tumble dried, as this could damage the cotton fibres and cause the fabric to shrink. We recommend air drying the skirt by hanging it freely and ironing it on a setting suitable for cotton.
