Rugged Aborigen Bushcraft Knife with High-Performance Nitro-42 Steel

Usage and Features of the Aborigen Knife

This knife is constructed as a versatile survival tool. Thanks to the bellied shape of the blade, it is excellent for butchering game, skinning, as well as preparing kindling for a fire or general woodworking. The blade, with a thickness of 5 mm (approx. 0.2 inches), is massive enough to withstand heavy-duty tasks. The knife comes with a high-quality leather sheath that can be easily attached to your belt, ensuring your tool is always within reach. Before your first use, we recommend wiping the blade to remove any residual protective grease from production.

Historical Context and Modern Technology

The name Aborigen evokes a connection with nature and the indigenous skills required to survive in harsh environments, where a knife was an essential life-saving tool rather than just an accessory. While our ancestors used flint or simple carbon steel, this knife utilises state-of-the-art metallurgy. Nitro-42 steel is the result of an advanced process where part of the carbon is replaced by nitrogen. This results in a finer crystalline structure, allowing the knife to be sharpened to an extreme edge that lasts much longer than conventional stainless steels, while remaining highly tough and resilient.

Care and Safety Instructions

Although the blade is made of high-quality Nitro-42 stainless steel, we recommend that you wash the knife with clean water and dry it thoroughly after every use in wet conditions or after contact with aggressive substances (such as meat juices or fruit acids). Occasionally treat the blade and the leather sheath with a suitable oil (e.g., mineral oil or specialised leather conditioner). The Kraton handle is virtually maintenance-free; simply wipe it with a damp cloth.

The knife is delivered razor-sharp. Remember that this is a utility tool, not a weapon for contact fencing or historical combat. Never use the knife as a pry bar, as this could lead to the tip snapping or the blade cracking. This knife is not dishwasher safe – high temperatures and harsh chemicals will damage both the edge and the handle structure.

Recommended Accessories

We recommend purchasing a high-quality sharpening stone or honing rod to maintain the perfect edge of this knife. In our range, you will also find practical ferrocerium rods (fire steels), which, together with this knife, create a complete set for your bushcraft expeditions.
