History and Purpose of Survival Knives

The phenomenon of survival knives with their characteristic hollow handles was popularised in the early 1980s by iconic action films. However, their true roots trace back to the military pilot survival knives of the US Armed Forces. Aircrew needed a compact and highly multifunctional tool in case they were downed behind enemy lines. The hollow handle allowed for the storage of matches, fishing line, hooks, and other small gear essential for saving lives. This knife proudly continues this tradition, bringing a proven design into the hands of modern adventurers.

Usage and Safety Warnings

Thanks to its shape and features, this knife is an indispensable tool for building a shelter, chopping branches, or preparing food. The sawback on the spine is perfect for cutting harder materials, plastics, or notching wood for a fire. Furthermore, the double crossguard with holes allows you to securely lash the knife to a sturdy stick using paracord, creating an improvised spear for hunting or defence against predators.

Strong Warning: The blade of this knife is sharply ground from the factory. This is strictly not a weapon intended for historical contact fencing, LARP battles, or person-to-person combat. Careless handling can lead to severe injuries. Use the knife exclusively as a working and camping tool and always keep it entirely out of the reach of children.

Proper Care and Knife Maintenance

Although the blade is made of 420 stainless steel and features an anti-reflective black coating to protect against the elements, it still requires regular care. We recommend carefully cleaning the knife of dirt and sap after every use outdoors, wiping it completely dry, and applying a light coat of gun oil. Always keep the sharpening stone hidden in the front pocket of the sheath dry so it does not lose its abrasive properties. Occasionally lubricate the threads of the hollow handle to prevent it from seizing.
