Lady Justice Statue 80cm – Goddess of Justice in Bronze Finish

Symbolism Hidden in Details

This statue is not just a piece of resin; it is an allegory of law captured in matter. The female figure is clad in a classical robe (toga) that falls in natural folds.

  • Blindfold: Symbolizes impartiality. Justice does not look at who stands before her – whether king or beggar, friend or foe. She judges solely based on facts.
  • Scales: In her left hand, she holds raised scales, carefully weighing the evidence and arguments of both sides of a dispute.
  • Sword: In her right hand, she wields a sword resting on the ground. It symbolizes the power and authority of the law, but also the punishment that follows judgment. The sword is double-edged, signifying that reason and justice can serve both sides.
  • Book and Snake: The statue stands on a book (code of law, constitution), signifying that justice stands on the solid foundations of the law. A snake is often depicted underfoot, symbolizing evil and corruption being trampled by the law.

Material and Craftsmanship

The statue is made of high-quality polyresin. This material is very strong once hardened and allows for the capture of even the finest details, such as strands of hair, folds of fabric, or bodice decorations. The finish is hand-painted to faithfully imitate aged bronze with a fine patina. As a result, the statue looks like a heavy metal casting, although its weight is significantly lower (approx. 5.2 kg / 11.5 lbs), making it easier to handle.

Historical Insight: From Maat to Justitia

The concept of personified justice dates back to ancient Egypt with the goddess Maat. The Greeks had the goddesses Themis (embodiment of divine order) and Dike (human justice). The Roman Justitia, whom you see before you, combined these attributes into one figure. Interestingly, original ancient depictions did not always have a blindfold. The blindfold as a symbol of impartiality only began to appear massively in the 16th century.

Placement and Care

Given its height of 80 cm (approx. 31.5 inches), this is a dominant solitary piece. It stands out best on a separate pedestal, in the corner of a room, on a low cabinet, or on a spacious desk.

  • Cleaning: Use only a duster or a dry soft brush to remove dust. Avoid water and chemical cleaners, which could damage the bronze patina.
  • Safety: The statue is stable, but can shatter if dropped on a hard floor (polyresin is brittle). Place it out of reach of small children and pets.
  • Environment: The product is intended exclusively for indoor use.
