Suede Bow Stringer Belta for Recurve and Longbows
Why a Stringer is Essential Equipment
You may have seen archers stringing a bow using the "step-through" method. As a specialist, I must advise you: do not do it. With both modern and traditional bows, you risk permanent damage—specifically twisting the lower limb. The Belta suede stringer distributes the tension evenly along the bow's axis. The leather (suede) also has the advantage of being non-slip and soft on the limb's lacquer.
This product is available in two basic constructions, which you must choose according to your bow type:
- Recurve Bow Models: These versions (labeled as 1 and 3) feature a "boot" (cup) on one end that slides over the lower limb tip, and a flat saddle on the other end that relies on friction against the upper limb below the string loop.
- Longbow (Straight Bow) Models: These versions (labeled as 2 and 4) are equipped with two leather cups for both bow tips, as straight bows do not have the pronounced curve required to use a friction saddle effectively.
How to Use the Stringer Correctly (Instructions)
Usage is simple but requires precision. Here is the procedure for the Recurve version (the principle is similar for the Longbow):
- Securely place the string loop into the grooves on the lower limb of the bow.
- Slide the lower leather boot of the stringer over the lower limb tip (securing the string in place).
- Place the upper part of the stringer (saddle or cup) onto the upper limb. If you have the saddle model, position it slightly below where the string loop will go.
- Hold the bow horizontally in front of you, string side up.
- Stand with both feet on the stringer's nylon cord. Keep your feet approximately shoulder-width apart (approx. 24–30 inches / 60–75 cm).
- Pull the bow smoothly upwards by the handle with one hand. Your body weight acting on the cord will bend the limbs.
- With your other (free) hand, simply slide the upper string loop into the groove on the upper limb.
- Slowly release the tension, check that the string is seated correctly in the grooves, and remove the stringer.

Maintenance and Warnings
To ensure this leather stringer serves you as long as possible, do not expose it to unnecessary moisture. If the suede gets wet, let it dry naturally at room temperature (never on a radiator, as the leather will harden and may crack). Regularly check the nylon cord for fraying. Caution: The manufacturer explicitly warns against use on bows with a draw weight exceeding 80 lbs (36 kg). With heavier bows, there is a risk of the cord snapping.
