Why Use a Stringer Instead of the "Step-Through" Method?

In historical movies or among novice archers, you often see the bow being strung by stepping through it and bending it over the leg. While it might look dashing, this technique is disastrous for both modern laminated bows and traditional self-bows. This movement creates uneven pressure and torsion (twisting) on the limbs. A slight misalignment can permanently twist a limb, rendering the bow inaccurate or completely unusable. Bow manufacturers are well aware of this, which is why using a proper stringer is often a condition for warranty validity.

This model works on the principle of two cups (pockets) made of durable plastic that fit over the limb tips. The strong braided cord is adjustable in length, so you can easily adapt it to the size of your bow. You simply stand on the cord with both feet and pull the bow upwards using the handle. This safely and evenly flexes both limbs simultaneously, leaving your hands free to comfortably slide the string into the nocks.

To ensure the stringer serves you well for a long time, keep it clean. Plastic parts and synthetic cords do not react well to prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or high temperatures (e.g., leaving it on a car dashboard), which can degrade the material and cause brittleness.

• Visually inspect the cord for fraying or tears before every use.
• Ensure the plastic cups are firmly seated on the limb tips and cannot slip off.
• Keep your face at a safe distance when stringing the bow; never lean directly over the bow.
• Do not use the stringer on bows with extremely sharp limb tips without protection, as they could cut through the cups.
