The origin of balisong knives (colloquially butterfly knives) likely traces back to the sunny Philippines, where for centuries they served as a highly practical everyday tool and, in emergencies, a weapon. The characteristic construction with two folding handle arms that safely conceal the blade when closed allowed for lightning-fast, one-handed opening. Today, manipulating a butterfly knife, known as flipping, is a globally recognized discipline of skill that develops fine motor skills, reflexes, and coordination. Mechanism and Construction of the Training Version

This model faithfully copies the mechanics of a real butterfly knife, but its blade is intentionally dull and perforated. The cutouts and circular holes in the blade, as well as in the solid red handle arms, do not just serve for an eye-catching technical appearance. Their primary purpose is precise weight reduction and perfect distribution of the centre of gravity. Because of this, the knife sits excellently in the hand during rapid rotations and does not lose the necessary momentum. At the end of one of the handle arms, there is a classic tail latch, allowing you to reliably and firmly lock the knife in both the fully open and closed positions for safe carrying in your pocket.

Safety Warnings and Proper Maintenance

Although the blade is completely dull and there is no risk of you cutting yourself, rapid rotations and botched tricks can result in painful bumps to your knuckles from the heavy steel handles. Therefore, we recommend practicing with care initially, and ideally over a soft surface (such as over a bed) to prevent damage to the knife from frequent drops onto a hard floor. The entire tool is made of durable stainless steel, which resists corrosion excellently. To maintain the perfectly smooth and quiet operation of the rotating parts, we highly recommend regularly lubricating the pivot pins of the arms with a single drop of quality Teflon or silicone oil.
