History and Practical Use of the Stand

Drinking horns have accompanied mankind since time immemorial. During the early Middle Ages, especially during the Viking expeditions and Great Moravian feasts from the 8th to the 11th century, animal horns were a sign of abundance, sociability, and festive ceremonies. Because the natural shape of a horn is curved and it cannot be simply placed on a table, the need for practical stands soon arose. This product is designed to safely hold your horn during boisterous celebrations and prevent the spilling of your precious beverage. It is made of unhardened iron, or rather manually processed lacquered mild steel. Intentionally, this is not hard cast steel. Thanks to this choice, the material is sufficiently malleable for your own needs. If your horn does not fit exactly into the central hole, you can simply grasp the stand, carefully bend it in your hands, and thus slightly adjust the opening perfectly to the size of your horn.

Product Care and Safe Handling

The steel is protected by black lacquer, but we still recommend that you do not expose the stand to long-term moisture and outdoor rain to prevent potential corrosion. When adjusting the diameter of the opening, bend the stand only with your hands and very carefully. Do not use a hammer, vice, or pliers to avoid damaging the lacquered surface or the structure of the steel. Wipe the stand only with a slightly damp cloth and do not use aggressive cleaning agents or wire wool. Please note that the horns shown in the illustrative photographs are not included in the delivery and are only a decoration for your imagination.

Recommended Accessories

For this stand, we highly recommend purchasing a genuine cow drinking horn, ideally with a capacity of 0.3 to 0.5 litres (10 to 17 fluid ounces), which will fit perfectly into the 7.5 cm (2.95 inch) opening. Furthermore, at historical festivals or LARPs, a contemporary linen tunic from the 9th to 10th century and a robust leather belt with a forged buckle will be very useful so that you look like a true and respected Norse warrior next to your feasting table.
