Anubis Statuettes
Anubis (or Anup) was an ancient Egyptian god of the dead, afterlife, burial grounds, and mummifications. It was depicted as a black dog, a jackal, or as a man with a dog or jackal's head. The etymology of the name Anubis is unknown and was already unclear to the Egyptians. The well-known Egyptologist Kurt Heinrich Sethe probably wrongly attributed the meaning of "dog" to them.
