The Dane Axe, the weapon of the mighty Huscarls and the honoured warriors of the Anglo-Saxon and Viking world, caused justified fear in its day. This fearsome weapon could split a man's head in two or bring down a powerful warhorse. In the hands of skilful, trained warriors, this weapon could stop an entire army. This apparently happened in 1066 at Stanford Bridge, where it was rediscovered many centuries later. Similar axes are also depicted on numerous works of art of the time. Dane axe head 22x19.5cm blackened

Although this axe head is made of high-carbon steel and its finish would be acceptable for re-enactment, the manufacturer gives no guarantee on it, which is why we are also selling it as a purely decorative item.

Note: This item has been carefully coated with a layer of preservative oil before packing, which serves as a temporary (protective) layer against corrosion (rust). This oil can be easily removed with an oil remover or simply wiped off with a paper towel or cloth.
