Early Medieval, Birka Type Lamellar Armour, Steel and Leather

This reproduction of an early medieval lamellar cuirass is made of 1.25mm thick D-shaped steel slats and leather. It has shoulder/upper arm protections, a full back and is equipped with three adjustable leather straps with bronze buckles on one side. Finds from Birka and Visby (Sweden) have furnished evidence that this type of armour was quite popular with the North Germanic peoples during the Viking Age. But scale armours remained in use until the late Middle Ages, as finds from the Battle of Visby in 1361 A.D. have shown. More information...
