All-Steel Two-Handed War Hammer "Warrior"

Hammer and Spike: The Bane of Plate Armor

With the gradual perfection of plate armor in the 14th and 15th centuries, swords lost their primary effectiveness. The answer to this development were weapons designed to crush and pierce. The war hammer worked on two fronts. The flat face of the head was used for crushing blows that bent the armor, broke bones, and caused severe internal injuries. The other side of the head, equipped with a massive, curved spike (often referred to as a "crow's beak" or bec de corbin), could concentrate all its kinetic energy into a single point during a powerful swing, mercilessly piercing plate armor or chainmail.

Construction and Detailed Craftsmanship

The hammer is made entirely of mild structural steel from head to pommel. The middle section of the shaft is elegantly twisted and fitted with a series of steel rivets for a better grip and to visually break up the smooth surface. The actual grip section at the bottom features heavy knurling, ensuring the weapon won't slip even when wearing a leather gauntlet. The hand is protected by a steel guard ring (rondel) above the grip, while at the very end of the shaft, you'll find a massive shaped pommel that helps balance the weapon and prevents it from flying out of your hands during a swing.

Technical Parameters

Total length approx. 92 cm / 36.2 inches
Hammer head length approx. 22 cm / 8.7 inches
Weapon weight approx. 3.50 kg / 7.7 lbs
Material Mild steel (unhardened)

Safety and Proper Care

We strongly advise that this hammer is made of unhardened steel and is intended solely for decorative and collector purposes. Due to its high weight (3.5 kg) and the shape of the head, it generates enormous kinetic energy when swung. Under no circumstances is the weapon suitable for contact combat (HEMA, buhurt, stage combat) or destruction testing. Striking hard materials would lead to the deformation of the head, bending of the shaft, or total destruction of the weapon due to the unhardened material, not to mention the extreme risk of severe injury. The all-steel construction without surface treatment is subject to corrosion. To maintain its perfect appearance, the weapon must be kept dry and regularly preserved with a layer of gun oil (e.g., Ballistol).

Recommended Accessories

This showpiece will stand out best on a sturdy forged or wooden stand in your armory. For safer handling during photoshoots or when showing off the weapon, we highly recommend the use of sturdy medieval leather gauntlets.
