The Three Lions Crest is a symbol of England: Richard the Lionheart (1189 - 1199) used the three golden lions (sometimes described as leopards) on their scarlet background as a powerful symbol of the English Throne during the time of the Crusades. The arms on the second Great Seal of King Richard I was used by his successors until 1340: three golden lions passant guardant, on a red field.
