Prigon Medieval Single-Handed Stage Combat Sword
Historical Background and Construction
In shape and typology, this sword corresponds to Gothic single-handed arming swords of the 14th to 15th centuries, a period when knightly warfare dominated European battlefields. Rather than replicating a single museum original, this sword is crafted in honor of the Czech noble Prigon of Konice, a distinguished warrior of the High Middle Ages. The blade is forged from high-quality ČSN 14260 spring steel, oil-tempered to approximately 47 HRC. The blade surface features intricate etching depicting knights, a medieval castle, and heraldic motifs. The hilt features down-curved quillons, a leather-and-wire wrapped wooden grip, and a classic scent-stopper/almond pommel.
Usage and Safety Guidelines
This sword is supplied in a version intended for stage combat and reenactment fechtbuch practice. The edge thickness is 2–3 mm (approx. 3/32" – 1/8") and the tip is rounded for safe contact fighting. However, this weapon is not intended for heavy full-contact armored combat such as Buhurt or Battle of the Nations. Always wear appropriate protective gear (gambeson, padded gloves, helmet) when fencing. Parry incoming strikes with the flat of the blade rather than edge-to-edge. Execute cuts with proper technique without using excessive force. All activities with this sword are undertaken at your own risk.

Maintenance and Care
The spring steel blade is not stainless. Clean the sword after every use to remove moisture and dirt, then treat it with a protective mineral oil (such as Ballistol or WD-40). Store the weapon in a dry place out of reach of children. Burrs and nicks along the edge are normal signs of wear from combat—inspect the blade before each session and smooth out any rough spots using a diamond file or sandpaper. If the crossguard becomes loose over time, we recommend carefully peening the pommel or tightening the fit by inserting thin wire or heavy fishing line into the guard gap.
