Historical Context and Origins of the Weapon

This type of one-handed flail (often referred to as a military flail or chain mace) is modeled after weapons from the Late Middle Ages, specifically the 14th to 15th centuries. The unique, creative name of this model is inspired by the famous Hussite captain and experienced military leader named Jan Čapek of Sán. This commander was renowned for his successful campaigns and tactical genius during the Hussite Wars, a period when impact weapons like flails and maces experienced their greatest boom. This flail is crafted in his honor.

Historically, flails evolved from ordinary agricultural tools used for threshing grain. The military modification became a dreaded weapon against knights in full plate armor. The main advantage of the chain was its ability to transfer enormous kinetic energy around the enemy's shield, meaning the defender could not easily block the blow without risking a broken arm or damage to their own weapon.

Design and Construction Details

The product consists of a solid wooden handle, which is tightly wrapped in leather at the lower part for a better grip and reinforced with a stylish leather wrap and cuff at the upper part. A massive steel chain is fixed to the end of the handle, terminating in a solid, non-hollow iron ball with sharp spikes. On the underside of the handle, there is a smaller metal eyelet with a chain, which was used to attach a wrist strap so that the weapon would not slip out of hand in the heat of battle.

• Keep the product in a dry environment to prevent corrosion on the metal parts.
• We recommend regularly treating the metal parts (chain and spiked ball) with mineral gun oil (e.g., Ballistol) to maintain their authentic appearance and shine.
• Occasionally treat the leather parts of the handle with a beeswax-based product or leather balsam to prevent drying out and cracking.
• Never expose the product to excessive moisture or mechanical impacts against hard objects, as this could damage the wooden handle.
