This sword has great length giving it both reach and power. As the length increased the velocity increased substantially. The ricasso allowed the sword to be gripped past the guard, thus shortening the sword and allowing it to be used as short spear. This made a thrust more solid since the blade is held securely at two separate points.
The blade is high carbon steel, tempered to a tough spring, the grip is ridged wood, wrapped with leather, and the pommel and guard are steel.Comes complete with leather scabbard.
The Longsword Zacharias is suitable for LARP and usable as a theatre prop. According to the manufacturer, it is also usable for re-enactment with light show combats. Since the manufacturer grants neither guarantee nor any repair service, we advise against its practical use and sell this sword only as a decorative item (no battle-ready-weapon).
Made by Windlass / Marto.
In the case of hand-forged blade our blacksmith takes the already rolled spring steel and forges it with hand on the anvil or under the monkey (drop hammer). By forging becomes the steel more compacted (denser). Industrially rolled spring steel blades are made by cutting steel plate into strips under drop shears. Then they are ground or milled/grooved and without further forging directly put into the annealing furnace and hardened in oil bath. The qualities of both kinds of blades do not differ from each other much since the industrial rolling is already very good. On forged blades usually have forge traces, which give them an authentic and unique look.
