Men's Musketeer Hat With Buckle And Ostrich Feathers

A 17th-Century Cavalier's Headwear

The historical model for this elegant headwear dates back to the first half of the 17th century, specifically the period of the famous Thirty Years' War and the era of the French musketeers under King Louis XIII. Wide cavalier hats were worn by soldiers, officers, and noblemen across Europe during this time. The brim, elegantly turned up and pinned on one side, served a purely practical purpose – it did not obstruct the fencer when handling a sword or shouldering a musket. The rich feather decorations clearly demonstrated the high social status and wealth of the wearer.

The hat is made of 100% cotton, which has been processed into a sturdy felt. This cotton guarantees excellent breathability while perfectly holding its shape. The edge of the wide brim is reinforced with a decorative burgundy trim. The crown of the hat is encircled by a band with a distinctive brass-coloured buckle. The left side is decorated with a dark ornamental button, while the right side is crowned with a magnificent bundle of long ostrich feathers.

Felt Hat Care and Maintenance

To ensure this felt hat lasts as long as possible in perfect condition and the feathers do not lose their beauty, gentle handling is required. The hat must not be machine washed, soaked, or tumble dried. We recommend removing fine dust and surface dirt very carefully dry using a soft clothes brush. In the case of heavy soiling, leave the cleaning to a specialised professional dry cleaner. Ideally, store the hat on a hat stand or in a sufficiently large box in a dry place to prevent irreversible deformation. Please note that this is a costume accessory and does not provide any head protection against impacts in combat.

Recommended Accessories

To achieve a completely flawless look of a 17th-century musketeer, we recommend purchasing a period linen shirt, a wide leather baldric, a long rapier or smallsword, and tall leather riding boots to go with this hat. We strongly advise you that the t-shirt or any jewellery worn by the model in the photograph are not included in the delivery.
