Medieval Jester And Juggler Cape In Mi-Parti Style

The History Of Heraldic Colours

Clothing divided into vertical coloured halves, expertly known as mi-parti, enjoyed immense popularity especially during the High and Late Gothic periods, i.e., in the 14th and 15th centuries across Europe. Originally, this style was also favoured by the high nobility to show affiliation with certain families through the combination of heraldic colours. In later centuries, however, these colourful dagged garments became the domain of wandering musicians, actors, and court jesters. The distinctive pointed edges (dagges) were meant to visually emphasise the dynamics and sweep of movement during dance and acrobatics. The cape is easily slipped over the head and fastened at the neck with practical lacing. Please note that other clothing parts shown, such as the undershirt or trousers, are not included in the delivery.

This Clown cape can be custom-made in other colours according to these fabric swatches. Please note the desired colour in the comment field of your order (include the swatch number, letter, and colour name). The cape is available in standard sizes according to this size chart. It is also made strictly to measure at no extra charge – in this case, please fill in this measurement chart after completing your order.

Care For Velvet Clothing

Genuine cotton velvet is a beautiful but rather delicate material. To ensure the cape retains its vibrant colours and soft texture, we recommend washing it exclusively by hand in lukewarm water (max. 30 °C / 86 °F) using a mild detergent. Never wring the garment by twisting it and do not dry it in a tumble dryer, otherwise the velvet pile will be ruined. Let it air dry hanging on a coat hanger. Ironing should be done with utmost care, always only from the reverse side on a very low heat setting. Further instructions for cleaning and maintenance can be found here.
